Silver Lining

HOWEVER, 13 years ago today I went on my first date with my future husband. I can't believe it's been 13 years! I do love him more today than I ever thought possible. I love so many things about him! He doesn't let anything ruffle his feathers. Not even when I called him today crying and screaming that water was pouring out of the smoke detector in our basement. He just calmly says, " I'll look at it when I get home." No big deal! He has a way of making everything all better! Corb, I love you! It sure has been a bumpy ride, but I wouldn't want to be making this journey with anyone else! Happy 13!

BAD NEWS

Here is my update, and as you can tell it isn't good. I received a letter from Selecthealth today and they said my request must remain denied. Let's just say I have cried, screamed, cried some more. Frustrated doesn't even begin to describe how I am feeling right now. I honestly thought they would grant my appeal. For four years I paid roughly $70 a month for Topamax. I told them I was willing to pay that amount. Why, just because there is a generic available does the name brand go up 80%?? It's astronomical!!! Here is just a portion of the letter, "After further evaluation of your request and review of the Select Med Plus Plan you purchased (the "Plan"), the Committee has determined that your request must remain denied. SelectHealth's three-tier prescription drug benefit allows you and your physician to choose the drugs that best meet your medical needs. You are eligible for one of three levels of benefits, depending upon the medication that has been prescribed. Tier 3 drugs are generally brand-name medications that have an alternate drug on a lower tier. Although the Committee understands that you had severe side-effects with the generic substitute, because there are alternative drugs offered on a lower tier, we are unable to grant your appeal." That is funny, because two of my Dr's wrote a letter on my behalf requesting that I be allowed to take the name brand Topamax.
WOW!! I think I am honestly speechless! I don't get it! I don't understand! Here you have a medication that almost completely absolved my migraines, but you can't have it, or you can for what amounts to an Escalade payment. Or, you can take the generic that made it impossible for you to get out of bed, and when you were able to get out of bed you will suffer from SEVERE depression and be suicidal. MMMM, let me think. Now I am back to migraines, headaches, can't be the mother, wife, financial contributor I want to be, but HEY, we're sorry!
Just so they are aware, I WILL NOT STOP AT THIS!! I think this is not only wrong, but criminal!! When, my friends, when will this country give us health care that doesn't rob us blind or make us near bankruptcy?? What I pay in my monthly premium is OUTRAGEOUS!! What I have been made to pay just to see a Dr is OUTRAGEOUS!! This, is OUTRAGEOUS!! It has to STOP!

Grievance Meeting

As many of you know I suffer terribly from migraines. I was on a medication for 4 years that I took to prevent migraines. This medication was an absolute lifesaver. Last April the medication went generic and I thought YEAH my prayers have been answered. This medication, Topamax is so incredibly expensive. But unfortunately, I had terrible side effects from the generic. But because there is a generic available the name brand Topamax now costs me anywhere from $200 - $600. INSANITY!! Obviously I can't nor will I pay that outrageous amount. So last November I wrote a letter to Selecthealth and began the appeals process to hopefully get the Topamax for a much cheaper price. Of course they denied my first appeal, so I appealed again. This time around I was able to go up to SLC and meet with their grievance committee. I felt like it went very well. I prayed that their hearts would be soften and their minds would be open to what I had to say. The looks on their faces was either very deceiving or truly it went well. I should know today or by Monday. I can only hope they will grant my request! Not all generics are the same as the name brand. What I went through while taking the generic was HORRIBLE! There has to be something that can be done to stop these drug companies from charging such an outrageous amount for medication! I would love to see what the price really is for these medications. Wish me luck!!

Colbi's Recognition Night

Since Colbi is now 8 years old she gets to attend Activity Days at church. She just loves it! They held a recognition night for the girls to show off some of the things they have done during Activity Days as well as some of their other accomplishments and talents. Some of the things Colbi displayed was her announcement for her baptism, a blanket she made, a picture of the Savior with the little children and some other things she has made. She was asked to give the opening prayer. Her little bum was glued to the seat for a minute, but then she got enough nerve to give it and gave a wonderful prayer.

Look at all that food!

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!

For years and years we have had people over to watch the Superbowl. I think it is one of our favorite things we look forward to as a family. This year Shawn, Jodi and their kids and Taryn and Collin came over to join us. What a good time we had! I think we ate more food than during the holidays. We made a new dip, a recipe from Brandon and Sunny. WOW!! was it delicious! Before Taryn and Jodi arrived, Corb, Shawn and myself had already eaten half of it. YUMMMM! The kids had a great time! Jaxon and Collin harassed each other the ENTIRE time, as they were rooting for opposite teams! Jax had his heart broken when the Colts lost. But he must be getting better because at least their were no tears! Jax convinced me to buy the BIGGEST chocolate cake I have ever seen from Costco. It was yummy!! Another year down and a successful Superbowl! Now we can't wait for the Daytona 500 and Nascar to start!! GO 88!!

Still working on finding those pictures from when Corb and I got engaged. I hope they aren't lost! Wish me luck. I hope to find them soon!

13 years!!

On Feb. 17 th 1997 I met Corby. We had known each other since Jr. High but were never friends. I can't believe we have been together for 13 years!! It seems like just yesterday Jodi was telling me I should go out with Corby. My response was not only no, but HELL NO! lol! It wasn't until I was pumping my gas at Gary's on St. Street in Orem, that I saw him drive by in his white Ford truck with his hat on backwards. Needless to say I very quickly changed my mind. This is my favorite month of the year, not because it's Valentine's Day, but because it's when I met my husband. I am going to dig out the old photos and find one to put up of us 13 years ago when we met and started dating. Love you Corb!
